Health Departments in Cuyahoga County recommend a new "level of awareness" for elevated blood lead in children. The new threshold recognizes that more than 6,500 children in Cleveland (about 40% of those tested) and more than 1,200 children in the first ring suburbs (about 22% of those tested) may be hurt by lead.

What did they know and when did they know it — a paint company ad from 1897 touts no lead. Poison Paint, a report on the Sherwin Williams Company's role in childhood lead poisoning, documents the company's knowledge as early as 1899 that lead-based paint was poisonous.
